Stothert Old Books is Chester's oldest established antiquarian bookseller, having operated its shop premises in Watergate Street, Chester from the early 1970s, until its closure in 2008.
We are now operating from private premises in Higher Burwardsley, which is around 12 miles from Chester. There is a bookroom (The Burwardsley Bookroom) which is open to the public by arrangement. We will be there most days, but if you are intending to visit, a prior telephone call is advised.
Similar to our former shop in Chester, we have a wide selection of around 20,000 titles covering most subject areas. We are always looking to buy books, whether a small collection or a large library, as well as postcards and ephemera.
The premises are located in one of Cheshire's most picturesque areas, only a short drive away from Chester and the M53 and M56 motorways.
The famous Sandstone Trail is only minutes away with numerous walks in the Peckforton Hills and beyond. Within walking distance are the Pheasant Inn and the Cheshire Candle Workshops whilst Beeston and Peckforton Castles, the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm and the Mickerloo Craft Gallery and Café are only a few minutes drive away. A great day out for all the family.
